National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
NCTE is devoted to improving the teaching of English and the language arts at all levels of education. NCTE provides a forum for the profession, an array of opportunities for teachers to continue their professional growth throughout their careers, and a framework for cooperation to deal with issues that affect the teaching of English.

National Reading Conference Online
This online community engages in research and dialogue on literacy and related topics. They support the professional development of emerging and established scholars and publish the Journal of Literacy Research, which deals with literacy, language, and schooling from preschool through adulthood.

National Reading Panel (NRP)
Consisting of parents, teachers, administrators, researchers, policymakers, and other education and child development leaders, NRP was created to identify research-based practical findings on how best to teach children to read.

National Research Center on English Learning & Achievement (CELA)
Dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and language arts, CELA's research seeks to learn what elements of curriculum, instruction, and assessment are essential to developing high literacy and how schools can best help students achieve success.

National Writing Project (NWP)
The mission of NWP is to improve the teaching of writing and improve learning in the nation's schools. The national office develops, supports, and reviews the quality of its growing network of sites by awarding grants to each local site and providing technical assistance.

Primary English Teaching Association (PETA)
An Australian association, PETA is committed to promoting awareness of the importance of children's language development and the significance of the teacher's role in education. PETA's website features discussion forums, curriculum resources, and an extensive list of links.

Reading Recovery Council of North America (RRCNA)
RRCNA is a not-for-profit association of Reading Recovery professionals, advocates, and partners. The Council provides a network of opportunities for leadership and professional development.

SIL International
The purpose of SIL International (formerly known as the Summer Institute of Linguistics) is to work with language communities worldwide to facilitate language-based development through research, translation, and literacy.
