RTEACHER

RTEACHER is an online community of more than 1,000 educators from around the globe. It offers a supportive environment for wide-ranging discussion of instructional practice, research, theory, and policy. The primary focus is reading instruction of learners aged 3 to 12. Visit the list archives to get a sense of this community.

The community was formed in the 1990s, with guidance from original discussion moderator, Donald J. Leu, Jr. Over the years, a strong culture has evolved among RTEACHER members, characterized by mutual support, tolerance for diverse perspectives, recognition that those perspectives provide special opportunites to support one another, and a belief in the important role of the classroom teacher. Current moderator is Julie Coiro of the University of Connecticut.

Members of RTEACHER also nominate and select recipients of the “Miss Rumphius Award” to honor teachers who develop exceptional Internet resources for others to use in their classrooms.

We invite you to join us! All you need is an e-mail account and a desire to participate in a supportive community of literacy professionals.
