History of Reading

 

Members of this community take a historical perspective on literacy and reading instruction. Sponsor is the History of Reading Special Interest Group.

This online discussion community is run via a listserv. To subscribe, you must have an e-mail account. Once you subscribe, you will receive copies of all e-mail messages posted by members of the community. You will also be able to send e-mail messages to the community.

How to subscribe

On the Web:

arrowGo to the subscriber page for the “HRSIG” listserv.

arrowEnter your name and e-mail address in the appropriate fields.

arrowIf desired, select your preferred subscription type. “Regular” will send you messages as they are posted. “Digest” sends one e-mail each day there is activity on the list, including all posted messages for that day. You can select to receive your digest in plain text (“traditional”), as links to individual messages (“mime”), or in HTML. “Index” sends a single e-mail per day, listing only the topics discussed but no message content.

arrowClick the “Join” button.

Or by e-mail:

arrowAddress an e-mail message to listserv@bookmark.reading.org

arrowIn the message body, type
   SUBSCRIBE HRSIG full name
[e.g., if your name is Jane Doe, type SUBSCRIBE HRSIG Jane Doe]

arrowBe certain your message does not contain any other information. Disable your “signature” option, if you have one, so this is not included at the end of your message.

arrowSend your message.

arrowShortly, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Read this message and follow the directions within 48 hours to confirm your subscription.

How to post a message

arrowAddress your message to the posting address for HRSIG:
HRSIG@bookmark.reading.org

arrowProvide a descriptive topic in the subject line of your message. This is helpful for recipients who must decide if they are interested in reading your message.

arrowSend your message, just as you would a regular e-mail.

Changing your subscription options

arrowGo to the subscriber page, and click the link to “login with your LISTSERV password.”

arrowIf you don’t have a listserv password, click on “get a new LISTSERV password,” and follow the instructions on that page.

arrowMake the desired subscription change, and then click the “Update Options” button.

How to unsubscribe

On the Web:

arrowGo to the subscriber page, enter your information in the appropriate fields, and click the “Leave” button.

arrowShortly, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Read this message and follow the directions within 48 hours to confirm cancellation of your subscription.

arrowIn the message window, type
SIGNOFF HRSIG
